Poor Ella.
For years she has wanted to have her ears pierced, but her anxiety made it impossible. Recently she finally decided to be brave and try and conquer her fear. We took her to the Claire's store in the Layton Hills Mall. I made sure to go when there were 2 employees who could pierce her ears at the same time because of her fear. Unfortunately, we had a horrible experience because of the incompetence of the employees.
The employees marked her earlobes and we made sure the holes were even. When it came time for piercing the employee piercing the left ear did not line the piercer up with the drawn hole and pierced it a full 1/8" lower than the mark. The employee piercing the right ear caught my daughter's cheek in the piercing gun and pinched it terribly, leave a large scrape with bled, and the piercing gun got caught in her ear and it took both employees to remove it while my daughter cried. Even the employees admitted the holes were very uneven and said we could come in and have the one ear re-pierced, but I don't think Ella will be able to do it after the amount of pain she experienced. Now we have a girl with incredibly uneven ear holes for life!
Regardless, I am so proud of her!!!
Go Elles!!
Go Elles!!
What should we do?!!
(This is the good side without the scrape)

So sorry it was so traumatic for Ella! I had second holes put in my ears when I was 13, also done by a teenage girl. They are horribly uneven and have been for 26 years. If anyone else has noticed, they've never said anything about it. I doubt anyone notices Ella's either.
I can't even begin to imagine. Poor girl. My doctor did mine and they were still uneven. Honestly I don't think anyone ever noticed. Unfortunately if she doesn't want to get it redone, I think her options are deal with the uneven holes or remove the earrings and forget having piercings.
My daughters lobes are a bit uneven so it was really hard for the Claire's employees to find a good spot on both ears. We had issues with 2 piercers too though. Her right ear piercing was done at an angle instead of straight thru. The back ended up too close to her head and rubbed constantly causing a very nasty looking sore spot. We switched it to a rubber back, but then it somehow partially imbedded in her ear a few weeks ago, almost 3 months after the piercing. We had to take the earring out and are letting it heal to get re-pierced soon. We will be stopping by a Drs office on our way for some numbing cream before the piercing to lessen the pain.
Oh how sad for her! If you do decide to repierce them go to a tattoo parlour. They are properly trained in piercing and do it by hand so there is no gun getting stuck or hitting the cheek. If you find one that has all the licensing and proper papers then they will have very sterile conditions too.
I feel for her though as I was the same way as a young girl. It took many tries to finally get it done and at that time I passed out and one of my holes was angled funny.
Poor Ella. I feel like one of my ears is pier ever lower than the other but I've just dealt with it because it's not significant. For a long time I was sad they weren't "perfect" (12 year old me) but now I'm ok with it. At least she's smiling in this pic. What does SHE want to do?
In case I haven't said it enough times in past blog replies, I have five daughters. They've all had their ears pierced. Until I read this post, I've never even thought about checking to see if their earrings were aligned. In fact, in my entire life up until now, I've never had the thought that someone's ear piercings were unaligned.
--And my mind is filled with trivial, useless thoughts.
So I wouldn't worry about it.
That's so sad for poor Ella!! We had both our daughters ears pierced at the pediatrician's office. All in all, a great experience there.
I've heard really good experiences at Claire's...but yours is not the worst I've heard, either! Poor little thing. I wouldn't worry about the misalignment though--mine are and no one has ever noticed!!
Aw man. She looks so grown up and happy in that picture though!
