Christmas Eve
We had such a wonderful Christmas Eve this year. I didn't think Ella was going to be "into it" until next year, but she was thrilled by the whole experience. We sat down together and told the Christmas story from the Bible (2 year old style). Ella played the part of Mary and rode her donkey (a.k.a. pink pony) to Bethlehem.
Once she arrived in Bethlehem, we had a baby Jesus which she wrapped in swaddling (pillowcase) and laid him in a manger. She was kissing and loving the baby Jesus.
In keeping with the tradition of my family, Ella got to open one gift on Christmas Eve which was new pajamas made by me in a frenzy just 30 minutes earlier! I made her nice soft and cozy flannel pajamas with the prerequisite polka-dot madness! She was pretty excited about the pajamas...as shown in this photo...
We talked about the star of Bethlehem and sang Christmas songs, including Ella's favorite "Jingle Bells". It was a really fun night and I was filled with love and gratitude for my little family, all of our wonderful blessings and the birth of our Savior.
Christmas Day
We got everything wrapped and set up on Christmas Eve (amazing!) I snapped a picture of our tree on Christmas Eve while there was still a chance of capturing it in it's serene condition before the madness of Christmas morning hit.
We awoke this morning and headed into the Living Room. Ella was pretty excited when she realized that her stocking was filled with candy! Daddy got her some "healthy" candy (fruit snacks) and some less healthy normal candy as well.
Matt got some iPod accessories from me for Christmas and was so excited to get his new iPod rocking! I also got him the "Royal Tanenbaums" Soundtrack CD.
Matt totally shocked me by buying me a new scanner for Christmas...something i didn't ask for, but totally wanted. I have been going to my in-laws a million times a week to use theirs and I was so happy! It's going top make my life TONS easier!
Ella got some books that make animal sounds, big puffy blocks and a pop-up fun center.
Then we unveiled the mother of all Kitchen Sets. The Disney Princess Kitchen Set given to her by Nainy (my Mom). She was so completely enchanted and if you knew what this thing could do, you would be too. Everything lights up, has sound effects, and has every bell and whistle out there!
She could have stayed and played all day, but we headed to the Aherns to have a fun Christmas Brunch (Eggs in a Frame) and then got MORE PRESENTS! Ella received a Dora chair and a fun little car for her basement playroom. She was so excited when she saw the car she climbed right on before we could take it out of the box!
She also had a blast playing with her cousins and especially loved playing "Donkey Conga" on XBOX with her cousin Porter. It plays music and you have to play along in sync with your own set of Congo drums and claps. Porter's were plugged in...Ella's weren't!

Scrapbooking Big-Wigs

I went to several meetings today for the launch of TINKERING INK. Most of the meetings were with the editors and all around queens of CK Media (The company who owns Creating Keepsakes, Simple Scrapbooks and PaperCraft magazines).
I wasn't sure what to expect.
I hear these vague rumors in scrapbook message board threads about these Scrapbook super-stars being cold or snooty.
I don't want to name-drop, but I did want to say for all to hear (or read) that I found these women to not only be very professional, but also warm, friendly, fun and downright passionate about their jobs.
After 2 minutes in her presence I was ready split a "Best Friends" necklace and plan a sleepover with Tracey White. She was so absolutely fun and spontaneous that she is one of those people that you are drawn to for the shear positive vibe and happiness she exudes.
I am so happy to know these great women are as friendly and wonderful as I would have hoped they were.
Ahhh...All is right in Scrapbook Land.

This holiday season has flown by and I found myself frantically addressing and stuffing envelopes today to get out our Christmas cards.
Our tree is not up,
our cards are not mailed,
our presents are not bought.
Seems like it's time for a frenzy of "catch-up". We're going to try to put up the tree today, mail the Christmas cards and clean the kitchen for the Ahern peanut-brittle making extravaganza!
We do have a good excuse. Ella has been quite sick the past few days. SO sick that as I loaded my 4th load of puke-soaked laundry yesterday I actually wondered if I was "cut out" for this whole Mommy racket! I know...we're 2 kids too late for those contemplations!!!
Last night my kidneys started acting up and we almost went to the ER, but the pain subsided.
I am also working frantically on finishing my Scrapbook Journaling Handbook for Tinkering Ink since we are trying to push the publication date up to January instead of next Spring!
Whew!

Creation Instinct

I scrapped all day today and made an awesome CD cover that I really like.
I wish I could show you, but it's for TINKERING INK so I can't share until the end of January, after their debut at the CHA.
It's such a nice feeling to create something you're really proud of.
That's one of the things I love about scrapbooking.
I am fascinated by human beings' instinct to create.
Maybe we do it because it makes us feel Godly, since God is the true creator.
It seems to be magically in us and I'm intrigued by it's presence in human nature.
Since the dawn of time men have created...music, art, inventions, big ideas and big dreams.
I often think God put that urge in us to prepare us for creating greater things someday.
I am just glad I have that urge.
I love making something using my experience, personal taste, ideas and creativity.
It makes me feel alive.

It's Official...I Like Compliments

I know women are notorious for hemming and hawing about compliments.
But I have decided I quite like them.
Last week at church a crazy man came up to Matt and I and said,
"Is this your wife?"
and Matt said, "Yes"
and crazy man said, "Wow! She is beautiful!"
I'm not gunna lie...it made my day...my week actually.
I don't even care that he was crazy.
Today I made a layout for my friend Pam.
When she saw it she said she loves my handwriting.
Another compliment and it made me feel good.

12.05.2006This morning while I tried to scrapbook, Ella snuck to the "forbidden zone" of our basement, pulled out a bunch of my scrapping supplies, dumped them on the floor and then settled down for a breakfast of Cheetos.
She capped off the Cheetos with a sampling of sour-patch kids I keep in my scrapping drawer for munching emergencies.
As you can imagine...this blood-sugar boosting breakfast was followed by a delirious run around the playroom while shrieking and sticking out her tongue.
At least she may finally gain some weight!
