So, in the past year I have purchased a few items from CSN stores online. CSN Stores has over 200 online stores where you can find everything from stylish diaper bags, to modern bar furniture, or great cookware! And I have discovered some pretty great products. I thought I would share one.
My first purchase was the fantastic Back to Basics Cocoa Latte machine. I love love LOVE this machine. I bought it on the recommendation of a friend (thanks Amber!) and it exceeded my expectations.
I do not drink coffee, so I can only comment on it's cocoa making and it is fantastic!!! The cocoa is heated to the perfect temperature for drinking, it's quick, easy and yummy! And the foamy froth on top is to die for. Hot chocolate lovers MUST buy this product!

- deciding which torn clothing can be mended
- packing away summer clothes and unpacking winter wear
- unpacking the "Girls 0-3 month" bin for Bianca
- organizing dressers and closets for the entire family
one more step towards an efficiently running household.

Recipes That Rock: Zucchini Bread
10.18.2010Autumn is here and gardens and Farmer's markets are yielding their final fruits of the season. Including delicious Zucchinis. During this pregnancy I craved Zucchini Bread like nobody's business so we made this recipe. It was really good and we used zucchinis from our local Farmer's Market. I thought I would share the recipe here. It originally came from Cook's Country, one of our favorite food magazines.
Zucchini Bread
1 pound zucchini, seeded and grated
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground allspice
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 cup plain yogurt
2 large eggs
1 tbsp lemon juice
6 tbsp unsalted butter, melted and cooled
Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 375°F. Generously coat a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan with cooking spray.
Slice zucchini in half length wise and scoop out the seeds. Grate the zucchini, peal and all, using coarse holes on a box grater. When all the zucchini is grated, place it into a clean dish towel and wring out as much liquid as possible.
Whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, allspice, and salt in a large bowl. In a small bowl whisk together sugar, yogurt, eggs, lemon juice, and butter until combined. Gently fold yogurt mixture and zucchini into flour mixture using a spatula until just combines. Transfer batter to prepared pan.
Bake until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few crumbs attacked, 45 to 55 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes in pan, then turn out onto wire rack to cool for at least 1 hour. Bread can be wrapped in plastic and stored at room temperature for 3 days.

10.13.2010Tomorrow at 10:30 am Baby Garfunkle will be making her debut to the world via c-section...four weeks early.
So, today is prep day, and I spent this morning visiting with my good friend, Kirsti, and making one of the most necessary preparations....hair bows. I sat and tied 40 little bows to be attached to the baby's head with KY Jelly and a number of large flower blooms for baby and big sisters to share.
Last week I received this gorgeous preemie sized hat from Jessica R and I cannot wait to try this one our new little girl! Isn't it adorable?! Jessica also made matching hats for the two big sisters and wrapped them in the most adorable wrapping along with the most adorable homemade card ever.

Yesterday. Was. Exhausting.
I awoke with the beginnings of a bad cold. Pulled myself (and my snoggy nose) out of bed, got the girls dressed and ready for the day and then received a phone call from my OBGYN office. They needed me to come in for an impromptu appointment...in 30 minutes. I got the kids into the car and we arrived just in time.
At my appointment they briefed me on the procedures of a C-section and had me sign oodles of paperwork giving them permission to do the C-section and promising not to sue if they accidentally "broke" my uterus, misplaced it, sewed it in upside down or marred any other vital organs of my body. (insert pathetic "Yay".)
Then I raced to drop off my kids at a baby sitter, grabbed a roast beef from Arby's and met my husband at the prenatal specialist for the dreaded Amniocentesis.
First, 20 minutes of fetal observation, in which baby's heartbeat was around 130-140 beats per minute. Then into the next room for the most dreaded medical procedure of my life. I have to say, it wasn't too bad. Baby Garfunkle moved and wiggled so it took much longer to get the fluid without puncturing her in some way, but I closed my eyes and Matt held my hand throughout and we were just fine.
Then, back to the observation room for another 20 minutes of scheduled observation. Baby's heartbeat was racing between 170-200 beats per minute. No Bueno. It stayed at this rate for an entire hour. We were then informed that we had to be transferred to Triage for further observation. If the baby's heartbeat didn't slow within one hour, we were having a C-section tonight. Cue: PANIC!!!
After many a frantic phone call, our wonderful Bishop and his wife arrived at the hospital to pick up our girls, who are not allowed in triage. And we waited. After more than 1 hour we were finally discharged with Baby maintaining a healthy heartbeat for 20 minutes straight.
All in all, I returned home from these appointments roughly 7 hours from the time I left my house this morning. And I am exhausted...physically and emotionally.
Tuesday brings results from the Amnio. If Baby's lungs are developed enough she will be arriving this Thursday. If not, another week.
Consider yourself updated.

For one thing, she has excellent grammar skills
and that endears her to me eternally.
Angie and her sweet hubby have been wanting a baby for a while now and have just learned that a little girl will be joining their family soon. YAY!
So, I have some things to share in honor of this happy event...
baby advice - always remember than no one knows your baby the way you do. Doctors have a wealth of medical knowledge, but they do not know your baby better than you. Don't be afraid to voice your expert opinion and make sure you are heard.

10.07.2010ella headed off to school today for school picture day.
her mommy is helplessly disorganized this week
and poor ella barely made it out the door in a cohesive outfit.
because there was so much ado about ella's pictures
i stopped at this field across from ella's school and
took pictures of evangeline.
the wind was blowing pretty fiercely
and tousled her wild curls, but i like that.
