Mimi Understands!

5.30.2006

Matt and I went to eat at Mimi's Cafe last night. I packed the diaper bag with the needed item for eating out with a toddler, including a variety of snacks to keep her busy until dinner came. we were seated at our table and the waiter went to get us a highchair. I started to unpack a little cup of mandarin oranges we brought for Ella, when the waiter returned with the highchair and a little plate. On the plate was a small cup filled with cherrios, a fresh orange slice and 2 saltine crackers. The plate was accompanied by a small plastic cup filled with water with a lid and a straw. WOW! Am I impressed! Finally a restaurant who understands.

My little thinker.

5.29.2006
Ella is a really deep little thinker. She loves looking out the window of the car and you can see the little wheels turning as she sits there. She is so quick to smile and laugh, but there is a very serious side of her personality and I love that! I snapped this picture while shenwas gazing out of the window at the sunset and mountains. Who knows what is going on in there. I can't wait until she can talk and tell me everything she is thinking.

MOVIE REVIEW: X MEN 3...2 out of 5 stars.

5.27.2006
We saw X Men 3 last night and might I say....blahhhhh! It was really close to being a good movie, but fell short in 3 areas.

1. First, and probably the most disturbing, was the choice of Kelsey Grammer to play "Hank" the governments Mutant liason. We have thought all of these years that he plays Frasier because it is a role he plays so well, but now we find out that for all these years it was actually the ONLY role he CAN play. He does not try to change or mask his regular speaking voice in any way. He delivered his lines, beastly make-up and all, no differently than he delivered his lines on Cheers 20 years ago. This causes a HUGE distraction in the movie since you are constantly asking yourself, "Why is Frasier all blue?"

2. The story was full of holes and you have continually tell yourself not to expect too much, since it IS, after all, based on a comic book. Still you find yourself constantly leaning to the person beside you to whisper, "Why didn't he just ________ ?"

3. For some reason this, the most violent and most sexually charged of the 3 films, constantly panders to a 6 year old's humor. The film was peppered with kitchy one liners at the end of fight scenes akin to, "Take that Butthead!" and even "Way to go furball!". Pretty cheesy and lame considering it's core audience of 15-25 year olds.

In all, I was pretty disappointed. You will probably still run out and see the movie in this first week, but at least I warned you.

LOST Season 2 Finale. And the question that HAS to be asked...Sawyer as modern day Tin Man?

5.25.2006
Last night was the 2 hour LOST finale and that may have been the best 2 hours of my life. Every minute was filled with action! From Hurly realizing that Michael killed Libby (I was SURE Hurly was going to shoot him in a fit of rage, but little Hurly....you're a LOVER, not a FIGHTER.) to realizing the "Pearl" hatch tubes led to nowhere, to the oh, so dramatic and highly anticipated running out of time to punch in the code.....Madness ensued!!! I came away hating some characters which I once loved...namely John Locke and Michael.

I spoke with my sister, Banna, today and she is working on a twisted "Wizard of Oz" theory. The "others" are led by one Henry Gale??? Isn't that the name of Dorothy's uncle? Could Sawyer be a modern day tin man? Hmmm....Kate as Dorothy? Renee as the Glenda the Good Witch?

I can't wait for the next/final season when it all makes sense. Remeber the good ol' days when you felt like you were smart because you thought you had stumbled onto the fact that maybe it was all a dream or a wacky after-life? Ahh...the innocent days of youth!!!

Ella's 1st Popsicle

5.24.2006
Today Ella had her 1st popsicle. I usually wouldn't give her one, but her cousins had them and she was so jealous! She kept trying to sneak licks off of theirs so I finally yielded and let her have her own. She made a face every time she took a bite, like the coldness was paining her, but she gobbled it up and loved every minute of it!

It's Begun

5.22.2006
Ella has rally started throwing in her toddler 2 cents these days. For instance, 3 days ago she decided she's not drinking plain water anymore. I've tried watering down juice and she's totally on to me and refuses. She has begun to exhert her will and it's probably time to set up the playpen as a little "time out" for her. And the real fun begins!

Date Night.

5.19.2006
Tonight matt and I went on a date. we went to SLC to see a concert put on by the "School of Rock" that has recently started in SLC. The kids were great and seemed to have so much fun! It made me excited for when little Ella can do groups and activities like that. The theme of the night was "Southern Rock". So there was some serious "Sweet Home Alabama" and even "Bad to the Bone".

After the concert we went to dinner at a restaurant dubbed the 7th best BBQ in America. Matt loved it....me...not so much. Everything was really spicy! We still had fun though. We came home, picked up Ella and puttied shelves in out linen closet...so glamorous! We had a really fun night.

Happy MOTHER"S Day!

5.14.2006
Today was Mother's Day. it was a little odd since Grandpa's funeral was yesterday. Mother's Day just got a bit swept under the carpet. I did have a good day though. We started at nainy's and Matt and I made her a special dinner of Pot Roast and Roasted Red Potatoes and Onions...so yummy! We made 2 Pineapple Upside Down Cakes and ate one with Nainy and then hit the road for the Ahern's and ate the 2nd one with Louise for her Mother's Day. I got great gifts from Matt and Ella. I got the "Cooks Country" annual recipe book for 2005 and a necklace and earring set from Matt and little Ella gave me a set of beautiful earrings made from her birthstone (Garnet). Here are some photos:

We're IN!!!

After 6 long months of waiting, 5 hours of panicked phone calls, $300 in fees, thousands of prayers and 9 lame application essays, Matt has just received confirmation that he has been accepted into the University of Utah for his Masters program in Business (with an emphasis in health Administration).
HOORAY!!!
He will begin this fall as a full time student. We are so thankful since we decided that our 2 back plans were actually plans we wouldn't consider. LOL! We were looking at waiting a year if he didn't get in, but now the wait is over and we look forward to the coming 3 years of studying, tests and living on a student loan income!!! Bring it on!!!

Ella's 1st Shiner!

5.08.2006
While I was away for the weekend at the Scrapbook USA EXpo, little Ella got her first shiner. Apparently, she tried to pull up to stand on a folding chair and the chair fell on her, catching her under the eye. When I got home I was surprised to find her eye swollen and blackened. I was a bit traumatized, but I recovered. I know this is only the beginning of injuries like this as we move from baby into the toddler years. Here’s the official incident photo -

Make Way for Her Majesty!

5.01.2006
Ella played dress up for the 1st time today. I have been amassing a very large dress-up trunk since we heard we were having a girl. I thought she might be a little young to get it, but NOT SO! She looked at herself in the mirror and waved like a beauty queen to all who looked at her. It was adorable!
