Super-Soggy Saturday (and Indoor S'mores)

9.13.2014
We attended a Kids' Day at a local park last year and had a great time so when we heard it was scheduled for today we planned on whooping it up again. We awoke to a slightly overcast day today and got ready to go out for fun!

We got to the fair and the kids made a wooden toy, rode in giant hamster balls, went through a bouncy-house obstacle course and got ready to ride the barrel train when it began raining.  We ran to the cover of the face-painting tents and the kids got their faces painted while we munched on free pretzels.

Within a few minutes it was pouring.  Vendors started packing up so we made a run for the car.  We arrived in the parking lot soaked through!

Of course, being sopping wet could never dim Jude's joie de vivre!

So we made a new fun family plan for today.  We hit the Redbox, got The Lego Movie and headed home.  The girls changed out of their wet clothes and into snuggly pajamas.  We moved the coffee table and the girls set up a sleepover style movie theater complete with blankets, pillows and every stuffed animal from their room.  I popped a huge bowl of popcorn and gave each girl a brown paper bag filled to the top.

As the kids watched their movie I took the free time to make some freezer meals. Baby C's arrival is just 2 weeks away and we are beginning to pack for our move, so we will need easy dinners.  I made 30 of our favorite Creamy Chicken Burritos and then began the prep for some Breakfast Burritos.  As I started to assemble the breakfast burritos we realized that the Whole Wheat tortillas couldn't hold the filling without ripping (stupid healthiness!) so I considered having Matt run to the store for some flour tortillas but then realized it was 5:00 pm. And that's how we had Breakfast Burritos for an early dinner.

After dinner we set up our Indoor S'Mores.  Do you know how easy this is, by the way? You just buy 3 or 4 Sterno Cans (they have them at out Dollar Tree or at WalMart in the camping section), some long skewers and your S'mores ingredients and your ready to rock.  Just be sure to set the Sterno cans on a glass plate or overturned bowl to be safe.

I decided to be a PigFace5000 and used a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup in my s'more.  OH to the YEAH.

Jude got to snack on plain old graham crackers.  Poor kid.  Some day he will experience the awesomeness that IS s'mores.

Overall I felt like we turned this rainy-day into a fantastic day at home with fun, food and family.

Smoreos are really good too. Instead of using graham crackers, use an oreo. Divine. :)

Sounds like a wonderful day! I'll be using sterno cans to roast marshmallows at Todd's birthday if it rains. Great idea!
