We finally made it to the First Day of School. I thought this Summer was going to kill me. But we got the supplies, sharpened 96 Ticonderoga pencils (no joke....96), picked out new outfits and shoes, got hair cuts, assembled make-ahead breakfasts, had Father's Blessings, and washed and loaded up the backpacks. We did it.
The girls were up early this morning. They both got showers and we did the all-important hair-dos. Ella went with a simple ponytail and Evangeline with a braided bang that was swept into a low ponytail. They wore coordinating lacy tops over tanks that I can barely tolerate, but they're happy and the outfits are modest so no complaints from me. They went off to the bus stop (which is in our backyard) while I stayed inside with a completely naked Bianca (who had wet the bed the night before) and cranky Jude (teething).
Evangeline cried as it was time to leave. She was worried she might not make any friends in her new class. I hugged her, dried her tears and told her she would make tons of friends in her new class. That maybe her new best friend was getting ready to get on a different bus right now and would be in her class. She dried her eyes and soldiered on.
The girls came off the bus in the afternoon with triumphant smiles and told me every single detail about each of their days. Literally. Every detail. It was awesome. And THAT'S what I love about having girls. When Matt gets home from work we will see if there's enough light for me to go back to the school for first day pictures (as is our tradition). If not...there's always tomorrow.

Your girls are so self sufficient. I love that about them so much. It sounds awesome to hear that Zoe might tell me about her day someday, because my boys do NOT.
