- On day one here I went to Wal*Mart and I could not believe how many kids there are here. I know, it's a given, but seeing that many children in the same store was mind-boggling.
- LDS Wards are different here. It's true. The people are just as friendly and wonderful, but when you have 9 families move into your Ward (congregation) within 2 months, our family got a bit lost in the shuffle.
- The schools here provide everything your kid needs. There were little piles of new school supplies waiting on the girls' desks on their first day of school. After spending between $50-75/year on school supplies in PA this was pretty awesome.
- The schools here have fewer school activities. Boo. In the girls' new school, there is no orchestra, band, chorus, sports...nothing until they reach 6th grade. My girls were pretty disappointed. They do have a Ballroom Dance team that you can join. It's cool, but what if you're not into that? One option?
- The streets in Utah are crazy-WIDE. Holy cow. Ella even said, "You could drive 3 cars side-by-side on the roads here!"
- Oh. My. Gosh. the Aztec Leggings. So awful and they are everywhere. I went to Target here to buy a skirt for church (since mine are all in our pods and not here yet) and 75% of the Ladies' section in Target was Aztec Legging MADNESS. I am NOT cool with this.
- We are close to everything. Holy cow, there are so many restaurants.
I miss seeing independent eateries, but the sheer volume of chain
restaurants is pretty great.
- It's SO easy to get around. I had kind of forgotten how awesome the street grid system is.
- Everyone in Utah is white. It's odd for me to gaze into a crowd and see Scandanavia5000 as far as the eye can see.
- Family is even better than I remembered. We had a family dinner with all of Matt's siblings and their kids on Sunday. It was epic. We totaled 29 people. It was loud and crazy and crowded and PERFECT.
- Our skin is dry and our hair is straighter. Goodbye, humidity!!!
- Everything here is new. I miss the cool, old, buildings of the East coast. But I also love how large the stores are here.

Never having lived anywhere other than Utah I enjoy your comparisons. As for after school clubs, it totally depends on the school.
Would love to know where you're settling but understand if you don't want to share that info...
Oh Em, Utah Mormons are a whole different breed of Mormons. Unfortunately members here seem to take it for granted, and sadly wards aren't tight knit in a lot of places. I've been in mine for a year and the bishop has yet to introduce himself. :(
We've been here since mid June, and still I have no calling in my ward, not even as a visiting teacher. That would never happen on the East Coast!
