So I googled some free diet sites where I can track my goals, weight loss and exercise. Just to help keep me accountable. I decided on SparkPeople since it provides everything I was looking for. It helps count calories, shows your daily intake and tracks exercise. Sounds good huh?As I browsed around I noticed some recipe threads on their message board, separated by which Diet these groups were following. I saw a recipe link for Low Carb pizza. I think limiting carbs and the TYPES of carbs you eat are important so I clicked on the link, hoping to find a good recipe for a whole wheat crust. And I found the following, heart clogging and thoroughly disgusting to even think about recipe from the Atkins group (no surprise).
1 Bag pork rinds
3/4 cup mozzarella cheese
3 eggs
1/4 c. parmesan cheese
24 slices pepperoni
1/4 c. low carb sauce
Get this. You make the crust by grinding the pork rinds up in a food processor and combining them with a few eggs and some cheese as a binder. Then top with more cheese and 24 slices of pepperoni. The pork rinds alone have 30 grams of fat and the pepperoni has almost 100 grams of fat.
Sorry, I just threw up in my mouth.
I am not, and have never been, a fad dieter and the Atkins diet is exactly why. LOL!
I will not be making the Atkins Low Carb Heart Killing Pizza!
I am planning on cutting back my calories, making wise food choices and exercising more.
Wish me luck!

Good luck! I'm doing some of the same things - cutting carbs and trying to make overall healthy changes as opposed to the fad stuff, too. Looking forward to hearing your good progress!
Girl, you cracked me up so much I had to comment! I agree that the pork rind pizza sounds totally nasty. Probably so salty it would make me puke too. "Sorry, I just threw up in my mouth." What a priceless statement - LOL!!!!!

Good Luck! I am on the same quest. No fad diets, just making healthier choices and exercises more. Maybe less on my plate and eat much slower!
That pizza sounds DISGUSTING!!!!!
That sounds absolutly disgusting and kinda just ruined my breakfast haha. Good luck though! When I started being healthier I realized I had to do ir for me and no one else. That's what keeps me going.
oh! that sounds so gross....:( I'm also trying to be better about excercising but it hasn't worked yet! BTW stop in and check out the little bloggie give away I'm having if you can :)
My hubby and I embarked on this same quest about 4 months ago. I wanted a lifestyle change, not a diet program. We also have 3 children under the age of 7. I love to cook and try to things and very rarely to I copy a recipe exactly. In my quest for healthy recipes I found two cookbooks that have excellent recipes. The first is Eating for Life by Bill Phillips and the second is Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld. I often blend the two together also. We committed to exercising at least 4 days a week and since I have lost 25 lbs. Simple changes to make a huge difference. My advice is do set realistic goals. Our change in habits and change in diet is easy to maintain. Good luck on you goal to live healthier in 2009.
ICK! That recipe is positively grody! And good luck on your endeavor! :)
Good luck. Another great site is www.my-calorie-counter.com. You can add recipes and stuff also it's a cool site.

um. eww! GL w/the health goal. I need to get to the same one myself!
Good call Em....Atkins is not the way to go. I should know cause I did it. Anything that requires you eat half your weight in fatty meats every day is a sure fire way to end up in the grave quicker...but hey at least you would look skinny at your funeral!
Like I said, South Beach healthy eating....changing my lifestyle totally, switching my habits to more healthy choices and three months later I have dropped 62 lbs. I feel so good. I have so much more energy and I am loving life. So I started on phase one again this week now that the holidays are over and I hope to see some good results. I will keep you posted. Having healthy friends is always a good way to stay motivated. But don't even worry...I still eat pizza. Homemade of course, whole wheat crust, and most of the meat is turkey...like turkey peperoni and sausage....yummy in my tummy. It's all about making the better choice!
That is just so terrible. I worked in a Psych hospital and all the Drs were on this - it took me months to be able to eat grapefruit because the lunchroom would smell like grapefruit, hard boiled eggs and microwaved sausages. Every day.
My diet was smelling that and not being able to eat. Sadly when I left I gained the weight back.Sooo my diet advice to you is to hang around someone on that diet. Talk about a food deterrent.
