Travel // 3 Great Places to Eat in the Virgina Beach, VA Area

6.12.2014
When I go on vacation the YELP app is my best friend for food.  It's so easy to see what's close and what is rated well.

HANDSOME BISCUIT in Norfolk, VA

Before we even left I had already decided we would eat breakfast at Handsome Biscuit.  And it was a very good decision.

It's pretty much the tiniest little food place in the world, but they bust out some amazing food.  Everything from scratch and everything delicious (although the savory items all needed salt).

Matt got the Hella Fitzgerald sandwich (read the description in the first photo above).  I was all set to have his heart explode later, but we're safe for now.  The redheads and I each had a egg, bacon and cheese buscuit and we got a HUGE pb&j biscuit for Bianca.  She approved.

MARIAM'S FIL-AM CUISINE in Virginia Beach, VA

Next we headed to lunch at an authentic Filipino restaurant.  Matt lived in the Philippines for 2 years while he served a mission for the LDS church.  We got a bunch of dishes to share: Bitter Melon, Chicken Adobo, Pork in Cocount, Pancit, and a whole lot of Lumpia.  It was ALL amazing!

Someone was NOT thrilled to have a Filipino lunch...until she tasted the Lumpia. By the end of lunch she had cleared 5 of these.

We then had Turon for dessert.  Bananas and Jack fruit covered in brown sugar and then rolled in an egg roll wrapper and deep fried. Oh MAN, they were so good.

SURF RIDER RESTAURANT in Virginia Beach, VA

Our friend, Josh, introduced us to this restaurant. The first thing that is wonderful about it is that it is on a marina. That means you get to sit on the dock, watch boats, and you know the seafood is fresh!

We started with an order (or three!) of the hushpuppies and they were truly delicious! Don't miss out on these little treats when you are there.

I had fresh crab cakes and I really enjoyed their signature side of brocolli with hollandaise.

Between our large party we sampled a lot of different menu items and they were all delicious and fresh! You should check out this restaurant for sure if you are in the area.
